4 Fast and Healthy Snacks for Travelers on the Run

Do you see a long car trip, train ride or layover in your future? If so, packing some fast and healthy snacks for the journey will help keep your energy up and hunger down between meal breaks. Nobody wants to hang around a lethargic, grumpy, and hungry traveling companion. The following 4 snacks can help prevent that.

1. Fresh Fruit (Apples, Oranges, Bananas, etc)

Eating a piece of fruit can be a welcomed portable and healthy pick-me-up during a long journey. Apples are easy and usually keep pretty well. The main downside to carrying and apple you’ll need to find a place to throw away the core. Other fruit like oranges and bananas also make good snacks, but are more likely to get smushed in your bag.

Consider that some countries ban fruit from other countries. Make sure you eat all of your fruit before passing through customs and immigration in countries with the fruit bans. Otherwise, you may get delayed at customs and your fruit will get thrown away.

2. Jerky
Jerky is a compact protein-packed powerhouse. Jerky is more satiating than snacks like crackers or chips and isn’t nearly as messy to eat either.

3. Energy Bars
Since energy bars are usually packed with protein, fat, and carbs, you easily eat a bar or two in place of a meal. Consider that some energy bars are made with more natural ingredients than others. Some bars also taste a lot better than others. Energy bars may not be as easy to find in some countries and locations.

4. Nuts (Almonds, Walnuts, Cashews, etc.)
Nuts like almonds are packed with protein and healthy unsaturated fats, so eating even a few nuts goes a long way toward fighting hunger during a long journey. Nuts pack in many vitamins and minerals as well.
